Cheap plane tickets - another tip

I also was looking and noticed that plane tickets are cheaper on Christmas day and crazy expensive the day before and after. So if you truly are flexible its worth looking at.

Airline Food - more tips

Had a thought: The food on the plane was alright considering its reputation. I'm vegetarian but on the way there they had me down as vegan and I got this very nice spinach rice dish. On the way back I was down as veggie and got something pretty good also but forget exactly what - the Vegan dish was better I remember noting in my head... But I do remember both times looking around at the meat they was serving and seeing most people left what they was given as it didn't look very appetising at all, but people did comment that mine looked good. This was with Virgin Atlantic. So put yourself down for Vegetarian or Vegan unless you are feeling brave.

Which reminds me again, Virgin Atlantic check-in was awful. I took some US Airways flights while there in which the check-in was quick and simple assuming you had the card you paid for the flights with on ya.

Get Well Soon Adam Yauch aka MCA

Thought I'd make a quick comment about the news of one of The Beastie Boys, Adam Yauch aka MCA having cancer in his neck. It hasn't spread so that is good news and will have surgery on it in the next couple of weeks and then some radiotherapy so he'll no doubt be fine - but all the same; GET WELL SOON!

But that puts my trip in October in doubt because that is the only reason to go over at that time was to see 'em play live at the Austin City Limits (ACL) festival. They are not refunding tickets as I checked with them earlier but it wouldn't be worth lumping a plane ticket on that cost to see shit like Kings Of Leon. These things can't be helped but its the 2nd time they cancelled on me.

TIPS FOR TRAVELLING USA

So I wrote what I am about to copy below on the plane home from the May/June '09 trip - I haven't updated this blog since obviously but I have exported and deleted the posts because it wasn't very well laid out and was just a matter of dumping stuff on the web as they happened rather than putting any thought into it. I am back in the USA end of September for a festival in Austin, Texas. I am going with my friend Chool and we get to see our favourite jews - The Beastie Boys by which time they'll have a new album out. I can't fucking wait.

If I am to keep this blog going I am gonna try and be a bit more clever about it and put things up that people might actually wanna read and photos that are interesting. So anyway, that final post that never made it was TIPS FOR TRAVELLING USA:

TIPS FOR TRAVELLING USA

Get the cheapest hire car - they'll always try to upgrade and you'll get it cheaper by saying no a couple of times first.

You can buy a GPS for $100 if you look, or $150 if you don't look, if your car doesn't have one then buy one, it'll be cheaper than hiring with your car.

Take even less than you think you need. You can buy everything here and its cheaper and easily available. I feel I could of got everything in the carry on luggage - for a whole month!

Check your laptop/netbook charges on the lower voltages - my 2009 Dell Mini 9 doesn't, may need a step-up voltage adaptor. This might of been a BIOS problem though.

Sun cream is cheaper and better in the USA.

Publix is the best supermarket, use them and try thier subs - they can feed you for two days.

Tip well (20%), the service is great because they have to kiss arse for a decent wage, some earn only $3 an hour + tips and they may have to share with the cook or seater person.

Save quarters - they are handy for tolls and random other things vending things.
